Edward Shanks in the Great War

All that I currently know about Edward Shanks‘ service in the Great War is the bald statement in his Wikipedia article that he joined the Army and that he served in France; he was invalided out in 1915 and thereafter did administrative work until the end of the war. I shall try to find out more.
